CLOG REMOVAL

Clogged toilets are the most common type of plumbing problem we see. Typical issues include water that won’t flush, water rising in the bowl, and toilets that don’t flush properly. Often there is a blockage or obstruction in the trap, keeping water from fully emptying into your drain.

Please avoid putting harsh chemicals in your toilet because they can damage your pipes. First, try plunging to see if you can remove the blockage. Be careful to use a flanged toilet plunger instead of a simple sink plunger to do the job. If plunging doesn’t work, your toilet may have a blockage further down the line. BEFORE YOU CALL A PLUMBER…

CHOOSING THE RIGHT PLUNGER

Use the best type of plunger for the job. Many people try to use a sink plunger for a toilet clog. Toilet plungers are different because the have an irregular flange shape on the bottom to better fit along the uneven edge of a toilet bowl. The red plunger in this photo is for sinks or showers, and the black one is made for a toilet.

THE PROPER WAY TO PLUNGE

Proper way to plunge: If the toilet won’t flush or the water is rising in the bowl, you may have some blockage in the trap. Using a toilet plunger, make sure you have a good seal around the toilet drain. Next, strongly plunge 5-10 times to push the clog past the trap.  If you cannot unclog the toilet, it could mean that you have a blockage further down the sewer line.
